Dr Katrine Wallace, epidemiologist

Bio

Dr. Wallace holds a Ph.D. in Epidemiology, is nationally Certified in Public Health (CPH), and has professional experience and expertise in epidemiology, research design, biostatistics, and science communication.

She is currently an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Division of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of Illinois Chicago, School of Public Health, and a Senior Lecturer at the Thomas Jefferson University College of Population Health, where she teaches research methods and statistics across graduate programs.

She is also known as science communicator "Dr Kat" on her popular social media channels, where she debunks health misinformation and educates the public on epidemiology, vaccines, and disease outbreaks — from the COVID-19 pandemic to measles and hantavirus.

Dr. Wallace has served as a member of several high-profile science communication initiatives, such as "Team Halo" (United Nations) and Project FIDES (World Health Organization), and has advised organizations including the Wellcome Trust and the RAND Corporation on public health communication. She was recognized by the UK Government as a "Vaccine Luminary" science communicator at the 2021 G7 Vaccine Confidence Summit.

Dr. Wallace is a regular opinion contributor at outlets including The Conversation, STAT News, MedPage Today, and The Hill. She is a frequent invited speaker on health misinformation — including at the National Academy of Sciences' Nobel Prize Summit and Washington Post Live — and has been interviewed or profiled in mainstream media outlets such as: MSNBC, CNN, BBC World News, The Washington Post, The New York Times, Bloomberg, and National Public Radio.

 

She lives in Chicago and is an avid roller skater and vintage Vespa scooter collector.
