Weekly death data 2017-2020 shows how significant 2020 excess mortality is
The way to assess the overall mortality impact of a pandemic is to look at excess all-cause mortality (difference between observed mortality and the expected mortality based on the previous 5 years of data). It is extremely unusual to have any excess mortality at all in the USA because in a population of 331,000,000 it is very easy to predict deaths with minimal error. So, to see excess mortality like we had in 2020 was very significant.#cdc #excessmortality #mortality #epi

COVID-19 death coding
This was my first "viral" tiktok video - who ever thought a year earlier that I would go viral for explaining how death certificates are coded. 2020 was wild. #epidemiology #COVID19 #mortality #deathcoding #deathcertificate
